Socks?

Postby Hob Nob on 2009-05-01, 11:35:42 am

Strage question maybe, or not as the case may be.

Since i've started playing, i've gone from baby soft feet to the slow and gradual process of them being toughened up by court work, suffering from numerous blisters along the way.

I've always played in just run of the mill sports socks, nothing special at all, but I have always wondered whether the likes of Thorlo, 1000Mile socks etc make a difference in this respect? Does anyone bother with these? Or is it just a case of dealing with it as & when it happens?

Definitely best to wear two pairs of socks (maybe thinner). This provides extra separation between shoe movement and foot movement. This should solve the problem completely. Even if you get the best, most padded socks it won't work - I've been down that blind alley.

Thorlo, thorlo, thorlo!

The level 2 should be ok unless you have tight shoes. If your shoes are a little loose you can get the level 3 to improve the fit and give the best padding.

I use the level 2 mini crew tennis and they are great. Expensive but worth every penny. Be sure to get the tennis specific ones. i have some running ones and while they are the best running ones I've ever used, they are very thin on the top of the foot which isn't as good for squash.

I used to use just nike sport socks but i'd get very sore callused feet, especially when they start losing their softness.

I wasn't impressed with 1000 mile at all.

But my Thorlos are just awesome.

Once your first set of blisters heals, your skin will develop permanent thick calluses. Once these calluses develop you will never get a blister again as long as you play squash semi-regularly. I too invested in thorlos socks when I was just starting out and getting many blisters. But now I have not got a blister since those times almost 6 years ago. I just wear regular cotton socks.

I've tried the natural toughening up route, and I played squash for a long time before I gave up, and still suffered from it, so I know it won't work for me.

I've looked at the Thorlo Tennis ones, I might just buy a pair for the interests of testing them.
